It sounds like you might have the wrong path set for your root.dir variable in the project.properties file.  Make sure this path is correct, and make sure you are using forward slashes (/).  You can double check this by navigating to your project root in Finder, and doing "Get Info" on that folder.

I was able to recreate your error by setting root.dir to a path that doesn't exist, or one that doesn't point to my actual project.
